The Aquatech housing has recently become one of the most sought-after digital camera housings for surfing, SCUBA, and water sports. But why? What is it that makes the Aquatech housing so good? How does it compare to other DSLR housings for surf photography? In this guide, we explain everything.
Aquatech Housing: The Good
In the world of surf and water photography, the Aquatech housing is well known for a reason.
Durable and Easy-to-Use Frame
The housing offers a solid and robust frame, excellent dexterity to the key buttons on most mainstream cameras, and is backed by a well-respected name in the industry.
Flexibility
Aquatics can be found shaped for most major DSLR cameras. Canon, Sony, and more all can be used with Aquatech housings.
Aquatech Housing: The Bad
Bouyancy
If you are using the Aquatech housing for SCUBA or snorkeling, you may find the housing too “floaty”. Because the housing holds so much air, it can be difficult to submerge the housing to significant depths as required when SCUBA diving.
When testing the housing while diving Casino Point we noticed some fogging and leaking at depths below 20 feet.
Because of this we primarily recommend the housing for above water or at sea-level activities.
Lack of “sure-thing” protection
Like most housings for digital cameras, water protection isn’t always guaranteed. In our testing, we saw the Aquatech housing flood several times when conditions got intense.
Use caution and always test the waterproofness of your housing before bringing it out in the surf.
Where to buy an Aquatech housing
Aquatech’s can be found for sale on popular online retailers like B&H as well as eBay. That said, it is often hard to find these housings on Amazon as they tend to sell out quickly.
Fortunately, Aquatech has pretty solid customer support that makes it easy to place an order or ask questions directly from the team.
