A Million Super Bowl NFTs and Counting: The Details
On Monday, Reddit took to Twitter to announce the details of their partnership with the NFL, to bring free Super Bowl LVII avatars to their fans.
Since, they have given away a total of 1.5 million (1,442,218 unique owners), a staggering figure. On Tuesday alone, over 500,000 were claimed.
Based on the free aspect of the NFTs, they are of course not breaking records on a sale price front. On OpenSea, the Polygon-based tokens have a floor price of 0.11 MATIC ($0.14).
Basically, a variety of different designs were put on the avatars representing the two teams competing for the famous Vince Lombardi trophy today.
The Positives
One Twitter user pointed out the key takeaways to the success of the launch.
LoopXNFT said: “Super simple and easy to navigate the minting process, You never have to learn anything about blockchain, Avatars have the “cute and collectible” feel.”
It is especially important as Reddit and the NFL try to bring newcomers into the NFT space to ensure launches of any tokens are easy to navigate and mint.
Super Bowl Preview
Today in Arizona, Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs meet up to contest for the 57th rendition of the world renowned Super Bowl competition. Played every year in February, the winners of each playoff bracket (AFC and NFC) meet in the finals.
Commercially, the event is extremely valuable, with a 30-second advertising slot this year costing upwards of $7 million. Following the first-half of action, Rihanna is set to take to stage for her return to live concerts. This is something else that will garner millions of viewers.
