OpenSea has launched a new initiative, the “Get Based” series, to spotlight artists on Coinbase’s Base network, an Ethereum Layer 2 solution. This series will feature the work of up to 15 artists throughout the summer, starting with a reimagined artwork of the iconic “Endless Summer” film by Carty Sewill, an artist and OpenSea employee.
Weekly NFT Drops and Affordable Prices
Weekly drops will be available on OpenSea’s website and Farcaster, a social media protocol. These drops will offer open edition NFTs at $5 or less, with some even being free. The first release, “Based Summer” by Carty Sewill, is free for 48 hours, limited to one per wallet.
Moreover, confirmed artists for the “Get Based” series include Jhekub, creator of RGB Punks, and Hun, known for “Primitives.” Further, the series features Cryptic Poet, a meme artist; Yiying Lu, creator of Twitter’s “Fail Whale”; Subwway, an illustrator; and Thank You Base God, who recently had a successful free Base NFT mint on OpenSea, resulting in over 181,000 total mints.
Promoting Base Network
OpenSea has been emphasizing Coinbase’s Base network, an emerging chain still building high-value collections. By featuring these artists and promoting their work on this Ethereum L2 network, OpenSea aims to familiarize collectors with the Base network and support its artists.
Additionally, OpenSea allows the bridging of assets to Base. Users can make purchases using fiat currency and credit cards through a MoonPay integration. The “Get Based” series will align with Base’s “On-Chain Summer II” promotion, starting June 3. This promotion offers over 600 ETH (approximately $2.3 million) in prizes, incentives, and gas credits across various projects and protocols. The goal is to drive engagement within the Base network further.
Ultimately, by creating accessible entry points for collectors and highlighting talented artists, OpenSea’s “Get Based” series seeks to promote broader expansion and growth within the Base network. This effort contributes significantly to the overall development of the Web3 and NFT ecosystem. Overall, this initiative highlights OpenSea’s commitment to promoting creativity and innovation in the rapidly evolving digital art landscape.
