OpenSea recently introduced “Shipyard”, which is a tool for NFT creators. It aims at simplifying and supporting the NFT development process. Also, the tool contains a series of solidity contracts.
Shipyard: A Tool by OpenSea
In a recent announcement, OpenSea revealed that they are introducing a new tool named Shipyard for NFT developers. However, the launch of the tool is facing a backsplash on social media platforms. In addition, many individuals from the crypto realm are hesitant to support OpenSea due to past issues with artist royalties.
Before Shipyard, NFT developers relied on templates from popular libraries such as OpenZeppelin and Solmate. These templates allowed the safe crafting of digital assets along with efficient code. The shipyard will integrate top-level NFT libraries and promote diverse NFT project development. Additionally, it will encourage teamwork and offer an open space for developers worldwide.
What’s more, Shipyard will extend developer-specific tools, including dynamic on-chain metadata that will simplify NFT transfers and distinct encoders and decoders. Also, these encoders and decoders are customized to execute Seaport Improvement Proposals (SIPs), streamlining the building processes. OpenSea invited NFT developers to contribute to the platform with the goal of making the NFT domain more innovative.
OpenSea Faces Backlash on Social Media
Despite the exciting announcement regarding the new tool, OpenSea is facing a lot of criticism on social platforms. Also, the crypto community has not forgotten OpenSea’s past controversies and issues regarding artist royalties. In August, OpenSea cancelled artist royalties, which are seen as important to ensure that artists can benefit from their work.
Therefore, the crypto community boycotted OpenSea. The movement is still active on social media, which is creating issues for OpenSea’s recent initiative. Besides, users are expressing their sentiments by saying, “You lost the greatest source of creativity when you rugged artists of their royalties and a chance to build on their God-given talent.”
Finally, tools like Shipyard are crucial for promoting collaboration, innovation, and growth among developers. As the NFT space continues to grow, it can be a go-to tool for NFT developers. Although, right now, ongoing protests are overshadowing Shipyard.
