Proof of Play, the studio known for creating the blockchain-based game Pirate Nation, has raised $33 million. The venture capital firms Andreessen Horowitz and Greenoaks Capital co-headed the funding round.

The blockchain-based role-play game Pirate Nation’s company, Proof of Play, successfully gained funding of $33 million. The beta version of the game was released in December 2022 and has received many updates till now. Therefore, the venture capital aims to fuel the company’s expansion and further development of technology.
In addition, the CEO, Amitt Mahajan, also known as the co-creator of Zynga’s iconic game FarmVille, revealed his further plans. Besides, the company wishes to allocate funds for the creation of fully on-chain games that will be there forever. Furthermore, the company recently tweeted and revealed the participation of other notable members as well. Finally, they made an official announcement of the funding.
The co-founder and CEO of the popular streaming platform Twitch, Emmett Shear, was also present at the funding round. Equally important, Naval Ravikant, co-founder of Angel List, and Balaji Srinivasian, the former CTO of Coinbase, also participated.
Proof of Play’s Vision and Multi-games
Chris Dixon from Andreessen Horowitz his excitement, he said, “We are thrilled to be backing Proof of Play as they architect an on-chain gaming future.” Further, Mahajan quoted about his plans for everlasting games, “Over a billion hours of playtime, creativity, and investment was lost with FarmBille’s termination, This made me search for ways to render games everlasting.”
However, the games and their graphics become outdated with time and this might be a problem. But, there are some exceptions that make Mahajan so optimistic about the plan. The company plans the game to live on blockchain technology forever.
Moving ahead, Pirate Nation shifted from the Polygon network to Arbitrum Nova this year. Also, Proof of Play announced that Pirate Nation will start its free-to-play mode very soon. The game will also allow users to design a free character without owning an NFT and the free version will serve to preferences of the users. Nonetheless, users having NFTs will get exclusive advantages and will enjoy greater features.
